Rosarian
and Tussie Mussie
Doll Artist: Barb Kobe
Created 2002
I choose the rose as a focus for this doll because of its meaning. The
rose has maintained a special place in the hearts and minds of
men and women through the ages. Certain roses, the red rose in particular
were once considered the prize of war for their healing properties as well
as their beauty.
The rose is linked to love, beauty and passion. It is a symbol of
motherhood and purity. Rosarian is covered in red roses symbolizing the
love you have for your husband and daughters; your great beauty and
passion for life. Her gown is crazy quilted in a variety of colors
representing your many life experiences and learned lessons.
In her arms she holds Tussie Mussie, a small rose doll-bouquet to
communicate your devotion, trust, and love toward your family. She also
stands as a symbol of your love for self.
In Sufi poetry the rose became the symbol of life -- its beauty a
metaphorical representation of perfection, and the thorns a representation
of the difficulties one must overcome to reach that perfection.
Queen Elizabeth I is said to have worn a rose behind
her ear, probably copied after the Spanish. Some say this was a subtle way
of expressing that the wearer "heard all and said nothing."
Rosarian
has a halo of roses behind her ears meaning that she is in touch wither
intuition and listens to and is guided by intuitive voices.
